New Year's

Let's see, December is the name of the tenth month, but it's the twelfth month, November... October... September.... What gives here? Yes in 1600 Scotland changed New Year's from March 25th to January 1st and in 1752 England rearranged the calendar so that New Year's would be January 1st, following the calendar promulaged by Pope Gregory 13th. But why, in making the calendar reforms did the Jesuits (Peter Clavius) also change New Year's Day?
